About Me

Hey! My name is Leah Van Dyken (Mrs. Van Dyken) and I am one of the 1st grade teachers here at Southwest. I also help coach volleyball at the high school. I graduated from Covenant College in 2021 with a degree in elementary education and am in my third year of teaching here at Southwest. I absolutely love it here, so much so that I came back! I graduated from Southwest Christian High School in 2017.

 

This past summer I had the privilege of marrying my wonderful husband, Derrick Van Dyken, and we are now expecting our first child! I have been overwhelmed by the providence of God in all seasons of my life, but this one has been particularly special. To say I am grateful is an understatement.

 

I’ve always loved school and have had amazing teachers who have helped shape me and the way I view the world. To have an impact on students the way that my past teachers have influenced me is incredibly exciting and very humbling. My favorite part of teaching is building relationships with my students and getting a front row view of their growth both spiritually and academically. Southwest Christian is a great place to do just that!
